The History of the Anklet or Ankle Bracelet

Ankle bracelets date back over thousands of years and have a long and rich history. They were traditionally worn by women as a means to attract a suitor by drawing attention to their legs and well groomed feet.  In Ancient Egypt, both rich and poor wore ankle bracelets, the wealthy wore them made of precious metals and jewels, whilst the poor wore them with charms. In the Middle Ages, ankle bracelets were often worn around both ankles and connected by a length of chain, this created a shorter and supposedly more feminine step. Ankle bracelets are more commonly associated with Indian culture and remains part of the customary ceremonial wedding garments and signals marital status, however, nowadays anklets are a normal part of any fashionable woman's everyday costume jewellery collection and is particularly popular in summer.
